John Trudell
John Trudell writes Native American poetry, as a singer, songwriter, actor and activist whose international following reflects the universal language of his words, work and message. Trudell (Santee Sioux) was a spokesperson for the Indian of All Tribes occupation of Alcatraz Island from 1969 to 1971. He then worked with the American Indian Movement (AIM), serving as Chairman of AIM from 1973 to 1979. In February of 1979, a fire of unknown origin killed Trudell’s wife, three children and mother-in-law. It was through this horrific tragedy that Trudell began to find his voice as an artist and poet, writing, in his words, “to stay connected to this reality.”
In addition to his music career, Trudell has played roles in a number of feature films, including a lead role in the Mirimax movie Thunderheart and a major part in Sherman Alexie’s Smoke Signals. He most recently played Coyote in Hallmark’s made for television movie, Dreamkeeper.

AKA Grafitti Man

Lines from a Mined Mind - Book
John Trudell's potent imagery and passionate convictions have established his international reputation as a poet and musician. Using his commanding voice, the "people's poet" has also made great strides as a Native American activist, as a leader of the American Indian Movement, and as spokesperson for the All Tribes occupation of Alcatraz Island.
Stickman: John Trudell - Book
This is a book about John Trudell written by Paola Igliori. Many years ago, I heard John Trudell speak for the first time...I was ten. I was intrigued by the way the words flowed out, ordinary words forged in fire and flame, in sycronicity with the passion of the cause.
Johnny Damas and Me
John Trudell has spent a lifetime saying what he means, meaning what he says, and staring down the barrel of the consequences. His second album continues the rant and roll started with his acclaimed debut album, AKA GRAFFITI MAN. This is a brave and eloquent album combining passionate vocals with a gutsy blues-rock base and traditional Native North American music.
Smoke Signals DVD
John Trudell plays a radio disc jockey in Smoke Signals. Critically acclaimed as one of the best films of the year, SMOKE SIGNALS was also a distinguished winner at the Sundance Film Festival! Though Victor and Thomas have lived their entire young lives in the same tiny town, they couldn't have less in common!
Blue Indians
Humor, hope, and magic mix with loneliness and oppression on John Trudell's Blue Indians. Trudell, a Santee Sioux poet, recites his straightforward social commentaries and romantic laments in an easygoing and, at times, sly manner. The melancholy world evoked by the poems is fleshed out by spare musical backup featuring traditional, wordless vocalizing, slide guitar, and low-key percussion.
Thunderheart DVD
John Trudell plays Jimmy Looks Twice in the movie Thunderheart.
Dreamkeeper DVD
John Trudell plays Coyote in the movie Dreamkeeper. A century old storyteller and his grandson a troubled 17 year old boy embarks on a cross country journey toward self-discovery. Like Old Pete's wise tales themselves Dreamkeeper is important and illuminating storytelling for the entire family.
On Deadly Ground DVD
John Trudell plays "Johnny Red Feather" in this 1999 Steven Seagal movie. Oil rigger Forrest Taft uses martial arts and survival skills, as well as skills gained as a CIA operative to oppose the Aegis Oil Company whose activities threaten the environmental conditions in his native Alaska.
Incident at Oglala: The Leonard Peltier Story DVD
In 1975, armed FBI agents illegally entered the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Gunfire erupted - a Native American and two FBI agents fell dead. After the largest manhunt in FBI history, three men were apprehended - only one, Leonard Peltier, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. This is his story. From the very beginning, Peltier's case has been dogged with controversy.
Live at Fip
This is a sensational recording of some of Johns' best. His backup band is wonderful as usual. This will speak to your heart and spirit. John is one of us who has been through Hell and has come back to tell the story. The fact that he does it so eloquently and with such emotion is a true gift from Creator.

Madness and Moremes
Sit back, shut your eyes and let John's words penetrate your soul, because that is what his music is like and this is some of his best work. Poetically eloquent, moving, romantic and soulful at times, bluesy at others, sometimes political, always filled with wisdom, insight and food for thought.
Crazier Than Hell by John Trudell
A powerful piece of poetry. Rocking, bluesy, psychedelic tunes flow naturally and coherently from start to finish. This is John Trudell and Bad Dog's most important work to date. John bares his soul in this CD. He is truly one of the greatest mind of our times.
