Mashantucket Pequot Museum Powwow / Festival

July 9, 2008 - 11:00am - July 10, 2008 - 3:00pm

Get on the powwow trail! Enjoy and share the traditions of these colorful Native gatherings that showcase tribal cultures and strengthen ties between friends old and new. The smell of fry bread and Indian tacos fills the air, while the rhythm of the drum and the jingle of the dance bells call everyone to join the celebration. It’s a kaleidoscope of color, storytelling and movement, plus handmade Native creations and traditional Native dishes to savor. Master of Ceremonies Bruce “Star” Curliss (Nipmuc) calls the dances, and explains what powwows and the stunning regalia are all about. Learn the different dances and their role in tribal societies, listen to ageless stories and move to the sound of the powwow drummers and singers. The impressive Grand Entry of the dancers is at 11 am and 1 pm each day. The fun runs from 11 am–3 pm on the Museum Terrace, free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.
