More than 30 American Indian and Western artists will be selected for the juried art competition sponsored by Oklahoma Indian Summer this year. The artist's work will be displayed in Community Hall in the Bartlesville Community Center throughout the weekend. Authentic Indian sculpture, paintings, clothing, gourd art, pottery, wood sculpture, basket weaving, silverwork, beadwork, leather goods and more will be available to see and purchase.

Other festival highlights include the intertribal powwow and Native American dance contests on Friday and Saturday, interactive traditional craft making and cultural demonstrations all weekend, and American Indian storytelling on Saturday,. In addition, food and craft vendors will offer their goods on grounds of the Community Center. Traders provide a variety of books, artifacts, supplies and clothing with an American Indian theme.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary, Oklahoma Indian Summer will host guest speaker Billy Mills, the only Native American to win a gold medal at the Olympics.

We look forward to seeing you at Oklahoma Indian Summer!

The annual intertribal Powwow kicks off with Gourd Dancing at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings in the Powwow arena of the Bartlesville Community Center parking lot. Adult dance competition includes the categories of Women's Cloth, Buckskin, Northern Fancy Shawl and Jingle (combined), Men's Straight, Fancy, Traditional and Grass (combined). At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the Youth competitive dance competitions for the Junior Division, ages 7 through 15, and Tiny Tots, up to 6 years, begin in the dance arena. Prize money will be awarded to the winners of all the dance competitions at the conclusion of the Saturday evening Powwow.

NOTE:During the dance competitions, spectators are not allowed in the arena. However, during the Intertribal dances, anyone is welcome to join the festivities and experience the excitement of a real Powwow. Listen for instructions from the MC.

All dance competitions are free to the public and some seating is provided, although personal lawn chairs may be more comfortable.

No alcoholic beverages are allowed and the Festival management is not responsible for thefts or accidents.

PLEASE NOTE: The benches in the arena are reserved for the dancers. In case of inclement weather, the powwows will move to the Bartlesville High School gym.
