ONAP Community Youth Organization Implementation Training

This training is designed for community representatives, tribal leaders, and TDHEs who are interested in, or are in the process of, starting a community youth organization. Sessions will highlight Boys & Girls Clubs, Boys Scouts, Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, UNITY, and the National Indian Youth Leadership Project. There is no registration fee to attend this workshop. Mention HUD-ONAP to receive the group rate of $72.00 per night; rate is available for reservations made by January 5, 2008.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs), tribal leaders, and resident leaders with an interest in youth development programming and successful drug and crime prevention activities.

TRAINING AGENDA

The training will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23rd, and conclude at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24th.

The training will provide introductory information to TDHEs, tribal leaders, and community representatives who wish to:

· Explore the feasibility of starting, promoting, and supporting youth development programs (Boys & Girls Club, Police Athletic League, Boys Scouts, etc.) for Indian youth on or near Indian land.

· Gain an understanding of the organizational relationships between TDHEs, Tribal organizations, and national youth development organizations.

· Review HUD and other funding sources to support establishing a local youth development programs to serve Indian youth.

· Learn from the experience of existing youth development programs on or near Indian Lands which are successfully serving the needs of Indian youth to benefit the community.

The program will include a site visit to see a thriving Native American Boys & Girls Club in operation.

Tribes may utilize Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funds to cover travel-related expenses for this workshop.
