Now celebrating its 12th season, Native FilmFest – a signature cultural program of Agua Caliente Cultural Museum – is one of the most highly regarded events of its kind. The festival presents the best in films by, about, and starring Native Americans and other indigenous peoples from around the world. Screenings will be followed by informative Q&A sessions with filmmakers, directors, and actors in attendance.

Elizabeth Weatherford, Founder and Director of the Film and Video Center of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, returns as our Guest Programmer. Her participation in the festival is made possible through our Museum’s partnership with the Smithsonian Institution Affiliations Program. The lineup of films selected for this year features engaging, entertaining, and enlightening feature films and documentaries paired with short films that have been described as “cinema-graphic gems.”

Special guest filmmaker and educator Chris Eyre, who is a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, will be a festival participant. People magazine named him “the preeminent Native American filmmaker of his time.” His debut film Smoke Signals was based on a series of short stories by Native American writer Sherman Alexie. It debuted in 1998 at Sundance Film Festival winning the Filmmakers Award Dramatic and Audience Award Dramatic.

Since that debut, Chris Eyre has made a number of distinctive films such as Skinwalkers and the signature film for the National Museum of American Indian, A Thousand Roads. His newest film release is Hide Away staring Josh Lucas, Ayelet Zuver, and James Cromwell. Currently, he is Chair of the Moving Image Arts Department of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design.

Mr. Eyre’s Hide Away will be screened at the festival, and he will be an integral part of the Q&A that follows the screening. Also, he will conduct film lecture workshops for students interested in film – drawing primarily from media classes at area schools. Complimentary All Access Passes to Native FilmFest will be made available to participating students.

Every year, the late Chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Richard M. Milanovich, attended Native FilmFest. He was a true lover of films of all genres. It is most fitting that we honor him with the good wishes of his family by establishing the Richard M. Milanovich Award for Distinguished Contributions to Indigenous Film. Although not an annual award, the Museum will present the first Award to Native filmmaker Chris Eyre at the 2013 festival.

There will be tented receptions daily between the afternoon and evening screenings where filmgoers may purchase tasty meals and beverages at minimum cost, as well as visit with other filmgoers and the filmmakers, directors, and actors in attendance.

I got paid $500 for my first paid public presentation. Now that may not sound like a lot to you, but this was 1987 when $500...was about twice what it is today. I was 25.

Two years before that presentation, I earned $14,140 as a restaurant manager that worked 54.90 hours per week. (Do the math.) I was not a good manager. To my credit, I was a customer-service-junkie manager. I wanted every customer served at light speed and with the best we had. But I didn't care if the paperwork was up to date...didn't care if the drawers added up perfectly at the end of the night. They were always close enough. (If they weren't I put in my own money and found how the cash disappeared later...) Didn't care if the coupons were all entered into the registers. I just was not a bookkeeping kind of guy.

I didn't mind paying lazy employees minimum wage and good employees twice that. But the restaurant did. Employees needed to be paid roughly the same amount of money....How stupid was that?! Lose your best employees to the first real job they find...and I'm stuck with what's left. I shared that with the regional people. They didn't like my non-conformist attitude. I confess that I never read "the company handbook."

That got me into more than occasional trouble. I didn't know you couldn't help people with their family problems at home, compliment the lady on how nice she looked that day, tell the guy to get his backside in gear, or bet on the Vikings. I managed "by Mom." I managed the store like my Mom would have. (And by the way...we were substantially profitable that year over and above the previous year even with bad weather at the holidays!)

I didn't get fired from THIS job. But I should have. I hated the rules...well I would have if I would have read them. The Regional Manager kept reminding me of the rules. I would almost get ill when I would be lectured about "the rules and policies". Policy always sounded like Police to me....

It just wasn't for me. I quit before finding more ways to get "fired." (No one was "downsized" in those days.)

I wanted to do something FUN, EXCITING, and something I LIKED. My two co-managers LOVED their work. The place was a perfect fit for them...but not me. I was a square peg and had no intentions of getting any more shaved off on the sides to "make me fit."

Napoleon Hill sat by my bed every night. (Think and Grow Rich, that is.) I was going to do him proud....

Moving from the point of being a speaker who wanted to "get good," to a professional was a pretty big step for me. I was going to ask for $500....

I was REALLY young. Why would anyone PAY ME to talk to them?

And once I decided to actually answer that question...

It was 1987 at Moreland Elementary School. I talked to the 400 kids packed into the gymnasium about drug and alcohol use. The good. The bad. The ugly. I was scared to death (almost literally, as I suffered from severe panic disorder in 1987...I had panic attacks 3-6 times per week...they were random...I never knew when they would come.).

I was 25 years old and my life dream was now officially on day one. I didn't do it alone. I asked for help and I had help. I had a friend helping me. Someone who was as dedicated not to my dream but the message we wanted to share. In fact, there were 2 or 3 people like that. None of us got rich. We weren't in that frame of mind. We shared a powerful message to people who wanted to hear it...and a lot that didn't. Later letters and testimonials would show lives saved, endless appreciation, recommendations to other schools and organizations.

Two years later I spoke to South St. Paul High School. $1000. I had an enormous audience of students, teachers, parents. The place was packed. Same subject. But media covered this one. We came up with a neat angle that tied us into a national campaign. That was a very, very good thing because it was the beginning of the next level...

In fact most of my early presentations were all $500-$1,000 per day (several presentations per day at each school). They were in front of schools...kids...the toughest audiences on the planet...and I survived to tell about it!

I don't have detailed records (what a surprise)... but I did about 15 schools per year for four years. I made more money in those 15 days than I did the entire year in 1986.

I made the audience members' adrenaline pump. I was unconventional. I did a lot of things most speakers would never do in front of an audience. I was not politically correct. My lack of judgment in content often got me a few scowls but, by-and-large, they liked the 25 year old...

I worked hard to get the dates...next to no one knows how to go from anonymous to known quickly...and I was no exception. I had to learn the hard way. But I learned.

I learned how to get paid even when they didn't have ANY MONEY. I learned how to get paid and my audience was children, which meant ZERO back of room. I learned how to get paid when there was literally no budget, no allotment, no nothing. Each month went by and I learned another secret. Another insider idea that would pay off over and over again. The kind of stuff no one on the outside would ever think about...which is why they were on the outside and I was in the jungle on safari!

Today...things have moved along nicely. I have been invited to speak literally from London to Australia. It took me an enormous amount of time to learn how to move from level to level. 500 to 1000. 1000 to 1500. 1500 to 2000. 2000 to 4000. 4000 to 5000. 5000 to 10,000.

But the hardest leaps were the early leaps. Constantly having to justify how I could be worth 1000.00 for one day...

And that's what I want to help you do.

* Why? Because the average retired American currently gets a check for $1.020 per month for Social Security. This number is dropping against inflation and will do so until it hits the big goose egg.

But some people, the other 9%, are better equipped to weather the storm. In fact, the recent data shows they will actually report record "net worth's" on their financials.

The difference between the two?

It all comes down to one core factor.

The Ant's Mistake
Remember the old "Ant and Grasshopper" story? Aesop (The Fable Guy) has revised his story.

The ant in the New Revised Edition, THINKS she is doing all the right things....unfortunately she is following an outdated model of thinking. She's been doing the "hard work model."

Respectable, but...

The ant works HARD but today that Ant fails and gets washed away with the lazy grasshopper.

That didn't happen 50 years ago.

Meanwhile the partying grasshopper thinks everything will "take care of itself," and she will worry about "it" when she "crosses that bridge." Maybe "The Secret" will pay her mortgage.... and of course the ant was banking on hard work paying off, ignoring the accurate thinking necessary to get a handle on the new 2008 reality.

And the ant really believes that $300 per month she is saving in her company's 401 k/ retirement plan will take care of her when she hits 65.

Is there a path that can avoid this mess that has been handed to us?

I can tell you from a monster sized longitudinal study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, that two categories of people out of the hundreds of possibilities, can live with a sense of security.

The first razor thin group that might make it according to the BLS is "Professional." (Attorney, M.D., etc.)

But the other group that is most likely to weather any storm, the Michael Phelps of life, are....

"The Self Employed."

....a lot has changed...

Here's the deal. It's pretty simple. The self-employed earn on average 60% more than everyone else...and everyone else has "Professional," factored into it.... That could go a long way to paying those monthly expenses.

Self employed's often end up with a well chosen micro-biz in the basement... and those that are smart and keep their costs down, and their profit margins up, and learn to market intelligently, they do pretty well.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of people with basement bizzes that sell stuff as part of a network. One of the reasons that 60% figure isn't 160% is because of the networks and the brick and mortar starts. Don't get me wrong, the networks aren't bad, but with the razor thin profit margins and the fact that most of the stuff being sold is retailing....well....the results will speak for themselves.

What's your situation? If your stuff you sell from your basement has less than a 50% profit margin, you will almost certainly be among the 90% of start-ups go under in five years.

And if you open a brick and mortar store, in five years, the non-franchise companies...over 80% fail in five years.

So WHERE is "the 60% more per year than everyone else?"

It's in disproportionate amounts to people who

a) are Self Employed

b) are in a home biz

c) have per item profit margins of higher than 50%

d) aren't opening a store in the strip mall across the street.

Like what?

There are hundreds of successful models that are making Self Employed, the Smart Employed's.

The guy who comes and puts down that environmentally friendly weed killer and fertilized on my yard each month in the summer. He sees 30 lawns a day at $40 per lawn. He works five days a week and does a quarter mill per year.

No rocket science involved. In fact, pretty much anything done from home is non-rocket science stuff.

I should know, I've been doing it since the last time I had a job...in 1985.

Services, Internet, you name it. The at home person writes off a chunk of all their expenses on their taxes. They earn *way* more money than people doing similar stuff in an office after the commute.

All that said, there are good choices and their dumb choices...high probability of success vs. low probability.

I'm a LOW RISK PERSON.

There are people that take much bigger risks than me and many get their butts kicked, many double or triple my results.

At Breakout '08 in Las Vegas, we'll go through the stuff that has the best chance for success...and those that are virtually guaranteed to fail.

Wisdom is knowing what isn't worth gambling on... There are a couple of games in Las Vegas you can plan and do OK at. Poker, Video Poker, and Blackjack. And then there are the other 91%.

Some products are great, if you can avoid your own self-sabotage. But most require you to be extremely lucky -- because when you get right down to it, they don't work. I prefer to follow Warren Buffet's lead and eliminate as much risk as possible from the equation.

Two Weeks before Financial Halloween
It's no accident that this event is held a short two weeks before Halloween. There is a short window to break out of your current financial situation, and get a secure start on the surest path to financial freedom.

This is not all doom and gloom. Quite the opposite. You can insulate yourself against the coming economic times. Even do well...very well... But the window is tight. There are a few paths open to you. But the most certain will soon thin out to newcomers....

How can people excel when the house next door is being foreclosed on? The guy can't sell his car, his boat and is getting laid off....?

Think about this.

A storm hit my neighborhood here two months ago. We had dozens of houses have wind and hail damage.

But there are a lot of smiling faces on the tops of the roofs around here. Hundreds of guys are raking it in because they have an at home, low risk, no rocket science biz.

Everyone's disaster is SOMEONE's OPPORTUNITY.

Anyone in the neighborhood could have started a roofing company but they didn't. Nope, they came from all around and will be sitting on the beach when there are two feet of snow here.

The crucial thing for you is to "get" what "someone's opportunity," is that you will enjoy doing.

I hate roofs... One of my brothers on the other hand...is a carpenter and is giving quotes... to this day.

Opportunity is there for the prepared and the wise and the person who moves.

It will *always* be this way.

The Doctor will make the most money when their is an epidemic or a major natural disaster. Preparation meets opportunity.

Is that OK?

When you are seriously ill or hurt, don't you pretty much demand to see a Doctor and complain that you had to wait?

Aren't you plenty happy to pay the Doc?

I am.

When people are doing stuff to help other people, like getting a roof over their heads, money doesn't matter much.

My Story, Your Lifestyle
Before I reveal to you the most certain path to wealth accumulation, let me assure you. . . this is not about chasing money.

It's about life, living and lifestyle.

You're smart enough to know that creating the life you want does require money. It's part of life.

Let me give you a bit of my background. . .

I grew up poor in Chicago. There were people who had less, but I don't know anyone who had less money, except maybe the few homeless that would walk the streets in those days.

The difference between where everyone in that neighborhood "ended up" was in large part a result of thought, belief and motion.

There were people who had lofty aspirations and they lofted themselves into bankruptcy at a young age. Sometimes twice.

So why was is it that in our 440-square foot home, 4 of 5 little kids ended up with enviable income after they "did done growed up?"

(I've actually done the math on this and I'll spare you here...but it was a tad unlikely...)

It's all about thinking, a few key personal instructions, and having a *real* map that is a true plan with contingencies and all...ON the map.

My Mom never said, "visualize, feel good about it, be grateful for what you don't have yet, and receive it."

Thank God.

She said, "no matter what happens we will survive."

She said, "I don't want you to go to the orphanage. We will survive."

Now what kind of "success talk" is that?

It's the only kind possible. Talk of making millions to those little kids and you bend their tiny brains in such a way that they turn to crime...the only way they would learn to get a lot of money. And many of those kids in that neighborhood did precisely that.

Two kids down the street burned Warren High School, right to the ground in 1985. (I always say we didn't have a violent neighborhood and IT wasn't...but I confess a lot of us experimented with matches and combustibles.)

And although it wasn't violent, crime touched all of us at some point in our lives. At one point I was the victim of theft from one of the kids in the neighborhood. Broke into my bedroom, stole coins I had collected since I was 7. Spent all of the money. I was saving it for college. It would have paid for a year or so.

I recovered. Earlier in life, I had savings bonds stolen by someone I loved. There goes another year in college...

I worked a lot as a kid, saved almost all of it and watched pretty much all of it vanish on two different nights.

I learned early...

I was a massive "saver" as a child. When you're poor you either spend like an addict or you stash like it will be gone tomorrow. I fell into the latter camp because I hated being poor.

My advantage was a Mom who wouldn't tolerate deviance. There was never the option of "giving up."

I have been, since my years in Chicago, at all ten deciles of wealth. Having done so, I can tell you that I get what it is like at every income level and I know exactly what it takes to get to move from level to level.

The 7 Steps to Wealth Accumulation
It sounds rather...interesting...I don't know any other way to say it. I'm going to completely rewire your thinking about wealth, unplug self-sabotage, and draw a map for your success, all the while building the momentum you need to breakthrough.

Step One: Learn How Wealthy People Think - The Science of Affluence
We begin here at 9:00 am on Tuesday morning. The doors open at 8:15 for coffee. You'll meet a few people. I might give you an important envelope you'll need for the rest of your life... at nine we get to it.

You'll learn and understand the differences between how the wealthy and middle class think.

I'll walk you through a complete profile of people like you and me who have fun, like what they do, have built wealth, and we'll look at the much larger group of people like you and me who think differently. The differences are significant... and you'll figure out what to change and then we'll start the process of change.

You'll identify where your thinking is incongruent with Wealth Accumulation. If you like, you can make these changes!

Not knowing the above is like trying to drive with the emergency brake on. If you don't get this right, wealth accumulation is a non-starter.

The nonconscious mind and the environment has gotten you to where you are at, for better at worse. Now you have the opportunity to make choices that will move you in a direction that you prefer.

Step Two: Adopt Scientifically Proven Abundance Thinking
Of course, I wouldn't leave you with just some facts scribbled down on notes you'll probably never look at again. We're going to put this research to work in your life, from day one all the way to your financial and lifestyle targets.

In this step, you'll use my Thought Sequencing Process (TSP) to change your thoughts in Las Vegas, once and for all.

This is the key to not only "knowing" how the wealthy think, but installing that thinking in yourself.

Not only will you use TSP but you'll learn how to use TSP when you get home!

Step Three: Identify Self Sabotage
There's no way around this one. And you won't learn this anywhere else. It's entirely unique to this event.

You'll identify all areas of unconscious self-sabotage. A lot of people can figure out through trial and error all the rest of this stuff...but self-sabotage is the monster force that it is because it is so hard to see what holds us back.

And learn how to begin the process of identifying and then stopping self-sabotage forever.

If you fail to start this process -- if you allow yourself to be forever plagued by self-sabotage -- even with the right thinking, you'll never get where you want to be...and stay there. It's a bit like starting out in the right direction with a millstone tied around your neck.

This crucial step just begins in Las Vegas, but you'll take it with you. Once you've mastered it, you'll be able to chart your own course, and get out of the way of your own freedom. . . which is closer than you know.

Important note: In this step we'll deal with an issue that could really hobble your efforts. Sometimes, it seems our friends and even family don't want us to succeed. You may risk becoming an "outcast".

Don't get me wrong, your friends and family don't want to see you completely starve...they simply aren't going to be thrilled with your new lifestyle as you live without fear of paycheck to paycheck.

We'll discuss this and the choices you get to make along the way. This can be tricky to navigate....now you'll be prepared.

And one fun point: you'll get to pick a luxury here...in fact you have to...

I'll also show you how to eliminate all non-deductible expenses in your new phase of wealth building. But we all need at least one thing to establish "familiarity" with our aspired lifestyle.

A little known secret is that when your brain experiences something good, it will find a way to get back. So rather than cut everything out of your life in some miserly quest to horde your wealth. By all means keep some luxury. This will hone your mindset to a finely tuned wealth-finding machine.

For me, I like staying at the nicest hotels in the world. When I'm on the road, I don't like feeling on the road. So, no one treats themselves better in this aspect of life.

That said, there's plenty of things that I simply don't care about.

....and I don't care what my neighbors think...and I'll walk you through THAT process, too.

If you succumb to attempts at conformity and feel manipulated to "fit in" in some way with all of the social groups and cultures around you, you'll waste away. I won't let it happen to you.

Step Four: Utilize The Action Orientation Change Process
This is not about visualizing and being grateful for stuff that hasn't happened. It's not some New-Agey, back-rubbing, feel good. . . waste of time.

I am going to lay out all the steps you need to make big things happen in your life. This event is about Change through Action Orientation (AO). There's no faster way to change than by movement. And you're going to make it happen. I'll guide you to the results you want, in October.

It's surprisingly easy to screw this up...completely.

Step Five: You Will Receive Your Threads
You'll be given Personal "Threads" of Wealth (PTW) to create momentum in thought and action. These are individualized to you, and you alone.

Remember, I have a background of 10 years of private practice therapy. My tool of choice was often Regression Hypnosis.

What that means for our purposes is that I got to hear people tell the unfiltered truth. Something you almost never get in day to day interaction.

I have thousands of pages of notes of what and how people really think.

Whether from CEO's or Desperate Housewives (and sometimes both at the same time...), thousands of people have bared their soul to me. Quite often you see threads of happiness, wealth, self-sabotage, and so on.

The similarity with which we all think when we are honest with ourselves is uncanny. It's only the nonconscious mind and the environment that make us different.

The way people really think tears the cover off the Employee Handbook. She doesn't only want to have sex with person A, she wants to remove person B from the planet....permanently... and those are often the less intense things...give or take, people think ....exactly what you think deep down.

Some of these things are the hidden desires that people are supposed to be ashamed of.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to know your innermost thoughts. (I already do.)

Nothing you are thinking can surprise me. I've heard, studied, and when necessary, repaired it all.

You will work through a carefully crafted series of questions revealing things to yourself (don't worry, this part is completely private: you won't share your answers with anyone, including me!).

Know thyself? ("Kevin, I just don't know what I want/want to do.")

You will after this. Then you will receive your Threads. Like a puppetmaster's strings you can use Threads to attain your goals.

Step Six: Use Your Threads Daily
You will take 1,2, or 3 easy and small, "thin" actions and use them like a mantra, everyday, until you reach your own Wealth Summit.

Remember, this is about motion. But you have to start where you are. The fastest way to take action, and make it stick, is to begin with something small. Something that will gradually move you beyond your comfort zone.

Threads, which are your private mechanism for the MOMENTUM to change, will give you the momentum you need to blast through all the obstacles you'll face in your new life.

Without this momentum, you'll be stalled on life's train tracks. . .

This is what happens to everyone else. They are the rocket that would work just fine if it launched beyond earth's atmosphere... but the scientist forgot the booster engines....wasn't much of a rocket scientist after all....

Step Seven: Cartographic Creation
By now, and perhaps for the first time, you'll have a clear picture of the life you want to create for yourself.

Now STOP! When was the last time you had a CLEAR PICTURE of what you wanted to create for your SELF?!

What is THAT WORTH?

You'll be fully informed to make these choices responsibly and ethically. All that remains is to pull it all together.

In this step, you'll get the basic framework for your map, and you'll draw in the paths you need to take to get you to the life of your design.

You'll get a map and I"ll help you draw it...and I'll show you how to draw your next map...and your next map...sorry, you'll evolve a great deal between now and when the egg timer goes off....

See how we've moved beyond mere desire?

Now you'll experience a degree of certainty in your life you likely hadn't imagined.

And once past certainty comes security and living a lifestyle of YOUR CHOICE, not someone else's hallucination of who you should be or how you should live.

The Well Intentioned Dragons in your life are now "slain" and you are free, to be, you.

Implementation
